Way way cool place. We were able to see bears and wolves very close up and learn a lot about them.
Sam here is BIG-- like 1000 lbs big! WHOA!
The kids were able to participate in the "keeper kids" program, They learned about bear safety and were able to go inside the bear habitat, (while the bears were not there of course!!) and hide food for them to find. So cool!!
When all the keeper kids were safely out, the bears were let back in. We were able to watch them find the food. The kids loved it!
We also watched a presentation about a Karelian Bear Dog, named Nakiska. This breed
is specifically trained and bred to chase bears out of areas with people to keep bears and people safe.
We learned that the bears that live inside the Bear and Wolf Discovery Bears are ones that could not return to the wild because they were "problem bears" that were hanging around campsites and had associated people with food. A dangerous combination.
Addie was in love with her.
We also loved being able to see wolves and learn about them as well.
Bald Eagles
A very fascinating, albeit creepy owl staring at me,
Grandma spoiled the kiddos with a souvenir. ♥
Very interesting and fascinating place.
If you are in West Yellowstone we highly recommend spending a couple hours there.
