After we explored the caverns he headed over to the Guadalupe Mountains for a hike. Since we literally drove 8 hours to get out there, we wanted to get as much bang for our buck as we could. Unfortunately we weren't aware that the park closes at 5pm! Such a bummer since we got there at 3:45p. All the Rangers on the trail warned us that the gate closes at 5pm sharp and we would be fined if we weren't out. UGH.
We should have said we'll be out when we're done. We'll happily pay the trespassing fine. But I digress.
It was a very cool hike and we had a blast.
This is a terrible picture but it was a beautiful moment. One of those moments that I wish I could hit the pause button and take it all in. It was a cruel reminder that time slips so quickly and while I know this, I can do nothing to stop it. We had so much fun together and I am keenly aware that these times are numbered. Before long Kaitlyn will be away at college and it won't ever be like this again. We won't be a party of 5 like this forever.
We wanted to make it to the "cabin." We were literally out of time and could not finish the hike. It was so frustrating to have to turn back, yet before we did, we pushed ahead and ran. Breathless, we finally admitted defeat and stopped and turned around. It was bittersweet.
We need to go back and make it all the way.
It feels so unfinished.
We saw a deer on out way of the park. I joked that it was our Patronis.
Nothing hits like Peace Tea.
