I have never heard aanyone say, "I think the movie is better than the book." Ofcouse the book is better. It is unfair and crazy to expect a movie to encapsulate 500 pages of your interpretation/imagination, especially in 2 hours.
With that being said, I really liked it. I think they did a great job with the character selection. I wasn't sure about Edward at first, but he quickly grew on me. I didn't picture Jacob so dang hot!! Alice was soooo perfect!! Exactly as I pictured her! There were parts that were corny and a bit silly, but the book was like that too in parts, let's remeber who the target audience is.
Overall, I give it a thumbs up and can't wait for New Moon!!
i liked it too. i didn't picture charlie like they cast him but he was good. jacob was right on. and i'm with you, some parts silly but still enjoyable. fun show.
I am sure I will be the only one, but I was not a big fan of the movie. There were parts that I liked. I realize there is no way it could have been better than the book, but it could have been a heck of a lot better movie in my opinion. I think Edward and Bella had no cemistry, Bella bored me to tears. The special effects were not great. Wich I understand cause of the low budget. So don't have him run up a tree with Bella. My group of friends was laughing at that whole part. Don't get me started on the Meadow, and the part where edward sucks the venom from Bella!! So frustrating. I loved James, and Charlie, and some of the scenes were sweet, and funny and endearing. I have alot of hopes for the second, and I am hoping they will replace the director, they will have so much more money. I know its breaking box office records. It was a fun night, I am glad I saw it, and don't hate me for my long critical comment! You did ask :) Just one more thing, you really, really thought Jacob was hot.....really? Did you mean James? I am praying they find a new Jacob for New Moon, or get him some acting lessons, and he grows about 3 feet! Its cool everyone can see the movie and the caracters in so many ways though.
Kelli- yes, I thought Jacob was hot, the hair, not so much, but I thought he had a gorgeous face and amazing teeth--one of my weak spots, stupid, huh?!
You are not alone, I have heard a lot of comments similar to yours about the movie. I haven't replaced my version of how I think the story goes with the movies version. It definitely wasn't as good.

I thought that the acting was subpar...but I put up with it b/c Edward was beautiful beyond belief. I will watch it again just to gaze at his lovely person...mm. yep. can't wait for the next one!
Um...Wow on the comments. I don't know who Kelli is, but my opinion of the movie was more like hers. But I also didn't really like books 2, 3, and 4. None of the actors were what I expected. Edward I thought did alright, I thought Jacob should have been a TON cuter (I did like is hair and teeth). James and his clan did well for their part. But because I did finish reading the series I will watch the rest of the movies when they come out. :)
Dang...lots of mixed reviews. I didn't judge it so harshly cuz I knew it was appealing to a younger teener-bopper audience. The book was better, that's a given, but I tried to enjoy it for what it was, despite a few slow parts. Charlie was surprisingly funny, Edward was ok, but could have been sweet and sexy, instead of always giving that the whole "wierd-eye". I guess I didn't picture him that way in the book. Jacob was so hot, but I think that cuz my niece is friends with him in high school and says he is so nice and down to earth, and really tan, but with cute short hair- so all this made him good looking to me. I think all in all, one should not watch the movie with really high expections, because you might get let down. But I enjoyed the fact that all the actors they got were spot on for the characters! I am so excited now for new moon!!!
I don't know Kelli, but I mostly agree with her opinion. I thought the movie was ok. Bella didn't impress me and Edward was just different then I invision him. I probably went into it expecting too much. I loved Charlie and Alice, but Charlie did look different then I expected... I am sorry but the meadow scene when Edward is in the sun was totally lame, he just looked sweaty to me and during the whole show he just didn't seem to be comfortable in his own skin. I think was was expecting the movie to be done as well as the Harry Potter movies so that was my first mistake. I am glad I went to see it and I will diffenitly go see the others when they come out, but I am hoping for a better director.
I heard it wasn't great so I didn't have very high expectations going into it. I was very surprised and I loved it. Before the movie I thought the cast was awful, not as I pictured them at all...but they did it for me, especially Edward. Wow, I can't wait to see what they can do with a bigger budget now!
